A soaring, twisting hotel & tower in the heart of downtownVancouver

1151 W Georgia

1151 W Georgia, formerly known as Trump International Hotel and Tower, is one of the most technically complex projects ever delivered in downtown Vancouver. The Arthur Erickson-inspired 63-storey twisting tower contains 218 residential suites, 168 hotel rooms, a restaurant, champagne bar, fitness centre, conference and banquet facilities, and Vancouver's first pool bar and nightclub, all above a 10-level parkade extending 95 feet below street grade. Achieving the building's dramatic twist required unique individual floor plates at every level, and delivering that geometry on a constrained downtown site demanded precision at every stage of construction. The project achieved LEED Silver certification.

The complexity of this project extended well beyond the structure itself. Urban One commissioned a laser point-cloud scan of the excavation shoring system to develop a 3D as-built BIM model, allowing the team to work proactively with the structural engineer to identify alternative reinforcing details and keep foundation walls within property lines without incurring schedule delays. Occupancy was managed across five distinct phases, each requiring its own commissioning and occupancy plan coordinated with the Building Code Consultant and City of Vancouver building officials, covering fire suppression, access and egress, elevator operation, and mechanical and electrical requirements for each program area as it came online.

The Fortis Conference Centre companion project is a two-storey structural steel and curtain wall addition to the existing Fortis Centre at 1111 West Georgia. Serving both the hotel and the Fortis Centre, the 16,742 square foot facility features multiple ballrooms, meeting rooms, and a full-service kitchen, with newly renovated commercial and retail space at grade.
