Quw’utsun Secondary
Cowichan Secondary School is a 146,000 sq ft, three-storey Design-Build academic facility in Duncan, BC, delivering a state-of-the-art learning environment for 1,100 students in grades 10–12, with expansion capability to 1,500 students.
The project includes spaces designed to serve both students and the broader community including a Neighbourhood Learning Centre featuring a Health and Wellness Centre, an Indigenous Language and Cultural Centre, and a Long House. Specialty learning environments include a 13,500 sq ft gymnasium, Metal Shop, Automotive Shop, Wood Shop, and Science Labs, supporting a full range of hands-on and academic programming.
The Design-Build delivery method was central to achieving a welcoming, high-performance building that integrates Mass Timber construction throughout. The campus is thoughtfully oriented to maximize views of the mountains that define the Cowichan Valley, with landscape design that reflects and celebrates local ecology and plant life.
The result is a dynamic, community-connected facility built to support modern learning and serve the Cowichan region for generations to come. LEED Gold.
